New Requirements for Child Care Subsidy Providers Starting April 1

Beginning April 1, all applicants seeking approval to become Child Care Subsidy (CCS) providers will need to submit a Statement of Tax Record (STR) to the Australian Government Department of Education. Existing providers may also be required to provide an STR, and these providers will be notified by the Department of Education.

The STR serves as proof of your satisfactory engagement with the tax system and is a necessary document when applying to administer CCS.

Applying for a Statement of Tax Record (STR)

To obtain an STR, you can use the department's online services. After submitting your application, you will receive a receipt, and your STR will be issued within four business days.

Important Tips for a Smooth Application

  • Verify Your Registration: Ensure you have an Australian Business Number (ABN), Tax File Number (TFN), and Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration if your income exceeds the relevant thresholds.
  • Review Your Tax Lodgements: Make sure you have submitted at least 90% of your income tax returns, Business Activity Statements (BAS), and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) due over the past four years (or since your tax record began, if less than four years).
  • Address Outstanding Debts: If you owe $10,000 or more (excluding disputed debts), pay off the amount or arrange a payment plan.

Taking these steps will help you resolve any tax issues before applying for your STR.
